FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The Official Royal House of Sori® Confirms Its Leadership of REVERENCE 2028, the Bicentennial of the Emancipation of Prince Abdulrahman Ibrahima Ibn Sori

Los Angeles, California -- October 23, 2026

The Official Royal House of Sori®, a heritage and cultural-preservation organization dedicated to the history and legacy of Prince Abdulrahman Ibrahima Ibn Sori, confirms that it is the founding organizer of REVERENCE 2028, the international commemoration of the bicentennial of the Prince’s emancipation in 1828. The initiative is co-led by Dr. Artemus W. Gaye of Liberia.

REVERENCE 2028 grew out of the Walking in the Footsteps of a Prince initiative, which The Official Royal House of Sori® and Dr. Gaye began with the Elders of Timbo in 2022. The commemoration will open in Natchez, Mississippi, where the Prince was enslaved for forty years. A Natchez Steering Committee will ensure that the city’s citizens have a meaningful voice. Programming will begin in the United States in 2027 and continue in 2028 with partner nations in Africa, Europe, the Middle East, and the Caribbean.

In October 2026, a delegation of The Official Royal House of Sori® travelled to the Republic of Guinea for the celebration of the elevation of Timbo to the status of a prefecture. Timbo was the royal seat of the Prince’s father, King Ibrahima Sori, and of the Prince himself before his capture in 1788. The Official Royal House of Sori® extends its sincere gratitude to the Elders and Wisemen of Timbo, and to El Hadji Mody Oury Barry of the High Council of Elders of Timbo, for their support and for their role in hosting the commemoration in Timbo.

“The story of Prince Abdulrahman Ibrahima Ibn Sori belongs not only to Guinea or to the United States, but to all of humanity,” said HRH Princess Karen W.S. Brengettsy-Chatman, President and Sovereign of The Official Royal House of Sori®. “REVERENCE 2028 unites Natchez and Timbo, and all who honor his legacy, in a shared act of remembrance.”

Official information about REVERENCE 2028, including programs, partnerships, and sponsorship, is issued only by The Official Royal House of Sori®. Partners, institutions, and members of the media are asked to direct all inquiries to the contact below.
